France, 2008. Romain Thiery discover his first forgotten piano in an abandoned castle. Romain hold the idea. He sets out on a quest to find these silent giants across Europe. His dedication paid off. He has discovered more than a hundred pianos, in as many places of stunning beauty. His numerous travels across Europe researching forgotten pianos have also allowed him to visit hundreds of abandoned places and develop other works on subjects from his central theme.
In this first volume (TOME I), he documents his experience. Without any artifice, only the pleasure of sharing with his readers a rare, precious moment, this moment he lived.

French photographer and amateur pianist Romain Thiery believes the piano is deeply rooted in the depths of our culture and sought to explore the instrument from an original angle. He made his life’s mission to combine his two biggest passions and set out to find abandoned mansions around Europe where old pianos had been left behind.
His modus operanti would be to scout buildings with abandoned broken pianos inside, ravaged by the passing of time. The series that emerged form Thiery’s work is called “Requiem pour pianos” and has raised its nororiety internationally.
To achieved his series, Romain Thiery has explored severals countries including France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania.
Requiem pour pianos presents a collection of 59 images created by Romain Thiery during trips made between 2008 and 2017.
